L’Alt Urgell, a land of majestic landscapes
L’Alt Urgell is located in the central part of the Catalan Pyrenees. The Segre River runs through the region, and its capital is La Seu d’Urgell. It’s a key crossroads between the main routes to the Pyrenees: north to Andorra, east to Puigcerdà and Cerdanya, and west to Sort, Pallars and Alta Ribagorça. The area also boasts a rich history, reflected in its remarkable Romanesque heritage — including the Seu cathedral and the churches of Coll de Nargó and Organyà.
Traditionally rooted in mountain farming, the local economy has shifted in recent years due to tourism and residential growth.
The Alt Pirineu and Cadí-Moixeró natural parks offer stunning landscapes and an ideal climate for outdoor sports — especially white-water kayaking — as well as year-round mountain activities.
Romanesque monuments, art, and artifact collections at the Diocesan Museum, local cuisine and a wide selection of rural accommodations make this region a top destination for both local and international visitors.
