Pallars Sobirà will capture your heart!
In the past, Pallars Sobirà had a traditional mountain economy, centered around livestock, farming and forest use, as well as salt production from the famous Gerri de la Sal saltworks.
By the mid-20th century, the region’s abundant water resources gave rise to a strong hydroelectric industry.
In recent decades, tourism has become a major driving force thanks to the breathtaking landscapes, the authenticity of its villages, and the wide variety of outdoor and leisure activities.
The Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and the Alt Pirineu Natural Park draw in many visitors. But activities like alpine skiing, cross-country and backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, adventure sports, hunting and fishing are just as popular.
Pallars Sobirà also offers museums, exhibitions, artisan workshops, Romanesque churches, archaeological sites and charming villages full of character.
As for food, the mountain lifestyle and focus on self-sufficiency have shaped a rich culinary tradition. Be sure to try some of the region’s most traditional recipes!
