Urgell

L’L’Urgell, the essence of the landscape

L’Urgell is crossed by three rivers: the Sió, the Ondara and the Corb. The Urgell canal transformed its once dry lands into one of the most fertile and productive agricultural areas in the country.

Three main towns structure the region’s economy: Agramunt, Bellpuig and Tàrrega — the capital of the county. The economy is largely based on agriculture and livestock, complemented by a strong metalworking and agri-food industry.
History has left its mark here, with impressive heritage sites like the Monastery of Vallbona de les Monges, a highlight of the Cistercian Route.

The local villages proudly preserve their traditions and festivities, offering events such as: the Verdú Wine Harvest Festival, the Bellpuig Procession of Sorrows, the traditional Harvest and Threshing Festival in la Fuliola, Tàrrega’s renowned Street Theatre Fair, and Agramunt’s famous Nougat and Chocolate Fair.
